COLOUR ME HAPPY

I have been helping a very good friend of mine decide on some gowns for her wedding and as we were flipping through the catalogue, a few of them stood out for me. Needless to say, we had very different tastes, as I tend to steer away from the conservative/customary designs! She went with a selection of white and ivory gowns and I pointed out my preference to this:

How’s that for sexy… and I love the colour!
So she spent the next 20 minutes arguing her point that wedding gowns should be all-white. Lame... After much (interesting) discussion, I picked out this number, to show her that a bit of colour does make the dress standout more.
Short dresses are nice too and best suited for small, low-key and fuss free weddings. They are not common choice as bridal attire, but I believe with the right accessories (and bouquet) will make the bride look like a million bucks. Plus, for practicality sake, you can always wear it again as a cocktail dress! Recycle!

Oh and by the way, she’s now going with the dress with the red sash…!

SPOT STAN

I watched Incredible Hulk over the weekend. I’ve always been a fan of Edward Norton and this movie had pretty cool effects. But right at the end of the movie, just before the credits, appeared a familiar face. HINT - Stark Industries.. .Woohoo!… can’t wait to see the next instalment!

Speaking of Marvel comics, there has been discussions on cameo appearances by Stan Lee in all the Marvel productions. i.e. Hulk, Spiderman, XMen etc.. Someone actually put together all of his cameo appearances and stuck it on YouTube!

And speaking of cameo appearances in The Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno is looking pretty good for his age! Looked like he was about to burst out of his security guard uniform! Well, overall, I enjoyed the movie, although I think the Lou version of Hulk had a funkier haircut than this current one. I say bring back the mullet!!

DON’T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND WEAR IT!

Someone posted a question asking “When is the BIG day?” (Thanks, zaaba!) Would you believe it, we have the day/month but not the year? Which means to say, it could either be this year or next. Oh, looong story..
Anyway in the event that it comes through this year, I’ve been doing some research on cakes! This was a lot of fun looking at delicious, multi-tiered cakes, cupcakes etc.. And choices of flavours left me quite hungry! Yumm…
Now you’ve probably watched a lot of funniest home videos of (disaster) weddings, where groom smudges the cake on the bride’s face (vice versa) as they feed each other! (Oh dear…) Cream and icing everywhere and not to mention what a mess to the poor bride’s make up and wedding gown which would’ve cost thousands!
I’d say, don’t have your cake and wear it. Think – Marzipan. Found this cool looking 2-tier cake from Cake Box.

It’s decorated with blue & brown magnolias and brushed silver monograms on the top. Looks more like a hat than a cake! (I’m sure we could change the blue.) Imagine what it would weigh if it was 100% thick chocolate mud cake?? But I love the silver monograms instead of the daggy bride and groom, edible (or wax!) figurines! This cake is so ME.

WISHING WELL

Check this out. This is a wishing well, handmade, used for 'collections' at wedding receptions.

Now this is a great idea for guests to make their wish and put their monetary contributions (for the couple) in the well. I was told that this wooden well did not have an 'opening' at the bottom, so to get to the money at the end of the day, they had to remove all the screw around the top! How's that for security!
Another great idea is the well-wishers boards:
This is a fun way for guests to post a message to the couple, as opposed to the usual sign-in guest book. To get everyone's photos, guests would have to send in a picture of themselves and a short message when they RSVP. Lots of work but looks like fun! ...

SHOES GLORIOUS SHOES

The world's best-known shoe collector, former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos, has her own footwear museum! OMG How awesome is it to have a building filled with nothing but your shoe collection??

I love shoes, my #1 weakness. A friend of mine asked me where I get my footwear from. Let me take you on a journey to visit some of my personal favourite shoe haunts. Well I may not be like Imelda and the key word is budget, we average wage earners can’t afford bloody Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo shoes!… Anyway, I love Charles & Keith in Singapore, my shoe shrine. Never leave this shop without buying at least 5 pairs! They have very summer-y shoes and sandals though.. I'm actually looking for a nice snazzy pair of boots. Its winter here in Australia and its blinking freezing. I discovered Nine West has great boots range!! I’m tossing between this:
and this (comes in black too):
Help me decide!
During my recent trip to Malaysia, I saw a very nice pair of heels that I thought will be the shoes that I'll wear on my wedding. Check this out:
Now to get the dress... I don't think I'll go with the usual white/pearl/ivory dresses though, but something with abit of colour. I know I'm doing it the other way round, but you know me with shoes - If it catches my eyes, I just have to get it!

WHAT’S HAPPENING??

This was me, the entire time at the movies when watching M Night Shayamalan’s The Happening , every few minutes I’d nudge my partner Sam, “What’s happening?.. so what’s happening??” I think I tend to do that a lot with Shayamalan’s movies – don’t get it until right at the end when the credits roll! You should see me with Sixth Sense!
I have a friend who totally likes the promo for this movie – not the trailer though, but the short promo on TV, where the short snippets were cut and edited so vaguely, makes you ask “What’s happening??!” – As soon as you finish asking that, the promo ends with the title emblazoned across your TV screen, to answer, “The Happening”.. My friend Simon is such a dag…

But there’s something else happening (pardon the pun) in the movies though that I’m hanging out for -The Mummy 3! Oooh aaahhh… And no I’m not hanging out for Brendan Fraser (far from it!) but the very thought of Jet Li in any action movie makes me want to train really really hard! Jet Li as the mummified Jade Emporer! Now that’s worth resurrecting!! Any Jet Li fans out there would support his movies, even if The Forbidden Kingdom was nothing to shout about – hey, any opportunity to see Jet in action is good enough for me. Damn the day he fully retires!
Well, I’ve already watched Indiana Jones but I shall reserve my opinions at this point until I’ve watched The Mummy 3 and then raise the ultimate question to everyone:

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull vs The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer… buwahahahahaa…

Have your say…

ARE YOU DEAD OR ALIVE OR JUST MODERN TALKING?

When I was first introduced to YouTube the first thing I looked up was old 80’s hits that didn’t quite survive my music collection over the decades. I couldn’t believe it, You Tube practically had EVEYTHING! It was like mother ship calling! I got to listen to some old stuff, enjoying my visit down memory lane…
Someone asked me recently: “What do Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, CC Catch, Dead or Alive, Modern Talking, Pet Shop Boys and the lesser known Bernie Paul, Ken Lazslo, Lou Sern and Baltimora have in common about their music?” I answered “Yes, bring on the 80’s Disco!!” Everyone (including myself) remembers the New Wave stuff but have we all forgotten about the 80’s DISCO or what!?? They’re not your regular 80s chart toppers but hey, this was what you get when you walk into a ‘discoteque’ way back then! But the days of disco that I can remember vividly are the days at Palm Groove where they played the kind of music I liked. Check this out
- Don’t Make Me Over, Walk On By – SYBIL
- Around the world – Lisa Stansfield
- Back 2 Life, Keep on Movin’ – Soul II Soul
Not bad for my first-time disco experience in a small mining town where I grew up...

So go on, I urge you to look up some of these groups/songs – I guarantee you’ll be spending the next hour laughing at yourself doing some of the most daggiest dance moves ever. I sure did!
